DISCOVER NEWHALL REAL ESTATE

When people think about the Santa Clarita Valley, they think about a suburban bedroom community with outstanding schools and a conforming look – very planned. Yet as much as people love to live in Santa Clarita sometimes they don’t want a tract home, they don’t want the same thing that everyone else has. For people who don’t, Newhall may be the answer.

To explain, let’s look at Newhall’s history. Newhall was the first part of Santa Clarita that was established back in the late 1920’s and 1930’s and a lot of the movie stars, especially the Western stars, moved there. They moved to nice big lots and homes in what is now considered Happy Valley. As Newhall grew, the first high school, Hart High, opened in 1941.

Newhall developed a reputation for having a lot of diversity – ranches & movie sets as well as small homes and duplexes. There were buffalo, a lot of agriculture and just really interesting types of property. Today Newhall offers everything from small town homes and small homes on large lots to some of the largest, most expensive real estate in our valley. In fact, when I sold my first million dollar home back in the 1990’s, it was a custom on Valley Street on a usable acre, with a pool & tennis court and literally just minutes from the main street, Lyons Avenue. Up the street in the hills I sold an artist retreat with spectacular views and no yard, very Laurel Canyon-ish.

Newhall is for people who want to be close in town for commute purposes, they want the schools which are very well regarded, and they don’t necessarily want a tract home. Though there are tract homes in Newhall, most of it is something other than that. Happy Valley, for example, has horse property and large lots. Wildwood Canyon is very expensive and has huge pieces of property up to 10 acres; yet you can still find a nice affordable single family home in what is called the Atwood Estates. Most of the duplexes and triplexes are in Newhall. Placerita Canyon, famous for the Melody Ranch Film Studios & The Master’s College, is also a part of Newhall. To sum it all up, Newhall has everything that people would move to Santa Clarita for and at the same time offers some things that no other part of Santa Clarita offers.
